With 38 locations spread across the lands of four states, the Nez Perce National Historical Park preserves the legacy of the Nez Perce tribe. Many of the sites are locations of important events, like the Big Hole National Battlefield and the White Bird Battlefield, both places where the Native Americans and US troops fought against one another in the 1800s. The Spalding Visitor Center provides museum displays on the culture and significant historical events, and sites feature various interpretive trails and archaeological ruins. The visitor center is in the town of Spalding, a few miles east of Lewiston and the Washington-Idaho state border.
